WorldEdit changes the world with commands. Litematica shows a build as a hologram you follow block by block. They solve different problems, and many builders use both.
| Question | WorldEdit | Litematica |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | In-game editor for blocks, shapes and terrain | Client mod that shows a schematic as a hologram |
| Where it runs | Server plugin or mod (Bukkit/Paper, Fabric, Forge, NeoForge) | Your game only (Fabric, plus malilib) |
| Builds for you | Yes, commands place real blocks | No in Survival (you follow the hologram); Creative paste is optional |
| File format | .schem (Sponge) and legacy .schematic | .litematic |
| Best for | Fast edits, terraforming, copying between places | Rebuilding a design block by block, material lists, checking mistakes |
| Works on servers | If the server installs it and gives permissions | Holograms always; Easy Place and paste depend on server rules |
